Heels and schizophrenia
The journal Medical Hypotheses 2004;Vol 63;Issue 4;pp.740-747 contains the article Is there an association between the use of heeled footwear and schizophrenia? by Jarl Flensmark, a 67 years old retired male from Malmø. The Swedish author, claims that wearing heels causes schizophrenia, but he also writes: "A selective literature review and synthesis is used to present a hypothesis that finds support in all facts and is contradicted by none." (Our emphasis). The story has circulated in various media lately, and was discussed on Swedish radio P4 Extra on 28 July 2005, where they interviewed the author. The broadcast is still available in RealMedia format from Sveriges Radio. The opinion is a hypothesis; it is not proven, and the author states that further studies are required.
